The Disney Encyclopedia - letter E
In this blog we are going to look at the 'Disney A to Z The Official Encyclopedia Sixth Edition' which is written by 'Disney Legend Dave Smith and Steven Vagnini'.
This blogs letter is 'E', there is so much in each letter that there will be multiple blogs of each letter.1. E! Entertainment: Disney and Comcast Corporation joined together in January 1997 in order to buy the majority of the stock of the entertainment industry-themed cable channel, E! In November 2006, Disney sold its stake of 39.5% to Comcast for $1.23 billion.
2. E ticket: these coupons were first offered in 1959 for the most exciting attractions, using the Disneyland ticket book. They were used with the debut of the Disneyland Alweg Monorail System, the Matterhorn Bobsleds and the Submarine Voyage. The term "an E ticket ride" went into the American lexicon, which meant the ultimate in thrills. (More information can be found under 'Ticket books').
3. Eagle Pines: this was a golf course at Bonnet Creek Golf Club at Walt Disney World. The golf course opened in 1992 and closed in 2007 and was designed by Pete Dye.
4. Eagle Pines & Osprey Ridge Golf Club: the club originally opened at Walt Disney World on January 23rd 1992 and was known as the Bonnet Creek Golf Club. The name was changed on February 1st 2005 and the club was closed on August 1st 2007. Osprey Ridge then closed in 2013 for incorporation into the Four Seasons Orlando resort development. It then reopened in November 2014 as Tranquilo Golf Club.
5. Ear Force One: this was a hot-air balloon that was 96-ft tall. It was designed in the shape of Mickey Mouse and debuted in 1986 for the 15th Anniversary of Walt Disney World.
6. Earffel Tower: this is a water tower that can be found at Disney's Hollywood Studios (formally known as Disney-MGM Studios). On the top of the tower there was a 10,000Ib pair of mouse ears! The tower was located in the park's backstage production area and was 130ft tall. (The tower was removed on April 28th 2016 to make room for Toy Story Land). There is a similar tower at Disneyland Paris in Adventure World (formally known as Walt Disney Studios).
7. Earl of Sandwich: this is a counter-service eatery, it specialises in hot sandwiches. It is now a national franchise, with its first restaurant opening in Downton Disney Marketplace on March 19th 2004 (now known as Marketplace at Disney Springs). The restaurant took over from Gourmet Pantry. Earl of Sandwich can also be found in Disney Village at Disneyland Paris, which opened on June 1st 2011. At Disneyland there is an Earl of Sandwich at the Downton Disney District.
8. Earle, Eyvind: (1916-2000) was a background artist/colour stylist who joined Disney in 1951. Earle worked on 'For Whom the Bulls Toil', 'Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom', 'Pigs is Pigs, 'Working for Peanuts', 'Peter Pan' and 'Lady and the Tramp'. He was most known for his distinctive style on Sleeping Beauty. He appeared on TV in '4 Artists Paint 1 Tree'. Earle was named a Disney Legend posthumously in 2015.
9. Early to Bed: this film was a Donald Duck cartoon which was released on July 11th 1941. It was directed by Jack King. It is about Donald spending the night unable to sleep due to a ticking alarm clock and a foldaway bed that keeps trapping him, by folding up on its own!
