The Disney Encyclopedia - letter J

In this blog we are going to look at the 'Disney A to Z The Official Encyclopedia Sixth Edition' which is written by 'Disney Legend Dave Smith and Steven Vagnini'.

This blogs letter is 'J', there is so much in each letter that there will be multiple blogs of each letter.

1. J. Audubon Woodlore: for information on this section see 'Ranger'.

2. J. Worthington Foulfellow: is a fox character in the film 'Pinocchio'. He is also known as Honest John and was voiced by Walter Catlett.

3. Jacchus: is a donkey ridden by Bacchus in 'The Pastoral Symphony' segment of 'Fantasia'.

4. Jack: this is a film about a character called Jack Powell. He appears to be a forty year old man who plays with toys and wears kids pyjamas. He is actually only ten years old, but has a rare genetic disorder that causes him to age four times faster than normal. This film was released on August 9th 1996 and was directed by Francis Ford.

5. Jack and Old Mac: this is a special cartoon film which was released on July 18th 1956 and was directed by Bull Justice. It is a combination of two stories. Firstly the nursery rhyme 'This Is the House that Jack Built' and a variation on the children's song "Old MacDonald Had a Farm". The word 'Farm' is replaced with 'Band'.

6. Jack and the Beanstalk: this is a Laugh-O-Gram film which was made by Walt Disney in Kansas City in 1922. There was a later version which starred Mickey Mouse, called 'Mickey and the Beanstalk', which appeared in the feature 'Fun and Fancy Free'.

7. Jack Skellington: he is the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town in Tim Burton's 'The Nightmare Before Christmas'. He was voiced by Chris Sarandon (speaking) and Danny Elfman (singing).

8. Jack and the Giant Killer: this was a short cartoon film. It was a modernised version of the story, made by Laugh-O-Gram Films in 1922. It is about a boy called Jack with his girlfriend and cat. They travel to a land of giants where he destroys four of them.

9. Jack-Jack Attack: this was an animated short film by Pixar Animation Studios. It appeared first on the DVD for 'The Incredibles', which was released on March 15th 2005. It is about Jack-Jack, who is the baby of the superhero family. He is at home with the babysitter Kari while the family are away and the toddler shows his latent powers.

10. Jackman, Bob: (1915-1996) he joined Disney in 1942, where he was working in accounting. He then moved to the music department in 1955 and became its manager in the same year. He also voiced Goofy in a number of cartoons in the 1950s.
